Writing Home believes in the saying 'Mistakes Happen'.
We don't want to punish users for small misunderstandings, lapses in judgements, etc.

If a user breaks a rule, in most cases, we know it's a mistake and will treat it as such.
When receiving a message due to a mistake, the Admin or Moderator will let you know that you're not in trouble.
Their message is just a reminder or a request to fix something likely unintended.
We can't grow and become better if we don't remind our users of the rules.

Your first reminder will likely come early as you become accustomed to Writing Home and it's rules.
Often, users copy/paste over threads from other sites, forgetting to remove banned content.
Other times, users are excited to get their foot in the door and make a thread before reading the rules in full.

However, there are also times where it's clear that a user's choices and behaviors are not a mistake.
This is when Writing Home must take action.

Below you will see our list of offenses and what happens for each offense.
Remember, this list may not be complete and could be added to in the future as examples present themselves through actual user actions.

Minor Offenses

A minor offense is the next step up from a mistake as described above.
When a minor offense has occurred, an admin or moderator will contact the user(s) involved to explain what they've done and get their defense.
Unless a legit reason is given for the offense, that the admin/mod agree with, a mark will be placed against the user's account.
Three marks against a user's account leads to a medium offense, which comes with a 3-day ban.
Blatant ignoring of warnings and repeating of the same offense will lead to a medium offense before three marks.

  • Baiting
    • Publicly Posting outside the Rage Cage something that will cause other users to respond in anger or frustration. This is often seen after a disagreement with another user where in one user will then go to the status bar to post about the situation to make it public. While venting is allowed in the Rage Cage (following guidelines), we want users to keep their disagreements otherwise private.
    • Even in the rage cage, baiting can be done by posting on a subject that is more a personal opinion than it is fact.
      • Example: "Anyone who doesn't double is selfish." This statement is both untrue and is attacking those users, which baits them into responding.

  • Fighting
    • Actively fighting with another user, be it via PMs or publicly in the status bar or forums.
      • Disagreements are fine but throwing out insults if the fight gets heated is not. This includes falling for a user's baiting as described above. A user’s job is to report any inappropriate or offensive content, which can include baiting. Even though you may be the victim, your response can also get you in trouble, so it's better to report than respond.

  • Emotional Manipulation or Guilting (Extreme)
    • In most situations, Writing Home expects its users to remove themselves from uncomfortable situations on their own.
However, if it's been reported that emotional manipulation or guilting is being used, we may step in.
      • Emotional Manipulation, as an example, could be users threatening suicide or self-harm if the partner leaves.
      • Guilting, for example, could be users manipulating the known mental illness of another user to make them feel they cannot leave the roleplay.
        • Note: In any case of Emotional Manipulation or Guilting, Writing Home only becomes involved in extreme cases.
We expect our users to act like adults and step away from toxic partners on their own under normal circumstances.

  • Posting/Requesting Banned Content more than Once (Incest or Bestiality)
    • While we can excuse the first mistake in certain situations, we will not see it as an accident afterward. The site is very clear about its content rules. If you're unsure, ask, either in a PM with an admin/mod or in the User Questionsthread.
      • Note: This does not apply to more series requests, such as pedophilia or blatant bestiality, which will be addressed in another section

  • Repeated Spam Posts
    • Included, but not limited to: (after original reminder of the action being considered spam)
      • Constant bumping despite warnings and reminders of the bumping rules.
      • Constant messaging of random users to roleplay who have no threads open.

Medium Offenses

A medium offense is the next step up from a minor offense, which can result in a 3-day temporary ban.
Admins/Moderators will still give users a chance to explain their actions. However, whether a 3-day ban is given or not, the user will end up with a minor offense mark on their account.
The temporary ban is considered a 'cool down' period, where users can take time to breathe and think about what they did and whether they should continue being a member of Writing Home if unable to follow the rules.

  • Harassing/Stalking Users
    • Harassment/Stalking is considered any action that creates contact with another user after the user has made requests that they stop.
      • This includes using other people to contact them, making new accounts, or going on discord.
        • While we usually won't intervene with off site contact, if it started on Writing Home and there is evidence of such, we will still act against the harassing user.
    • Harassing a user can also be posting an insulting message publicly on another users thread or calling them out by name in the Rage Cage forum or your own thread.

  • Fighting/Insulting Staff Members
    • If you are contacted by an admin or moderator and choose to attack them because they are doing their job by enforcing the rules (rules you should already be aware of), you will be given a medium offense should the moderator or admin decide it warranted.
      • You are allowed to calmly argue your point if contacted, but attacking/insulting will not be tolerated.
    • If you are found to be badmouthing admins to create a negative image of them based solely on their requirements to do their job or a personal dislike based on opinion and not fact, you risk a 3-day ban.
      • If an admin or moderator is abusing their power or isn't keeping their cool when confronting users, report them to a higher. You won't get in trouble for this. Writing Home wants to remove any authority figure who abuses their power.

  • Abuse of Power (this also results in loss of admin/moderating status)
    • This is toward all moderators or admins who abuse their power or continually lose their cool.
      Examples include:
      • Admins/Moderators making comments such as “I can do what I want because I’m an Admin/moderator”.
      • Admins/Moderators refusing to explain what you did wrong when issuing a warning.
      • Admins/Moderators repeatedly letting their friends slip under the radar or never issuing more than warnings even after three warnings have been given.
      • Admins/Moderators not correcting the public activity of other Moderators/Admins if their activity breaks the rules.
      • Admins/Moderators being aggressive toward you even if you broke a rule (while they are to be direct and firm in explaining what you did wrong, they should not be swearing or using insults).
      • Admins/Moderators publicly shaming users they have given warnings to.
      • Admins/Moderators threatening users to keep them from taking the concern to a higher authority and/or refusing to send a report to a higher authority.

  • Three Minor Offenses
    • If a user accumulates 3 minor offenses, it results in an automatic 3-day ban.

Major Offenses

A major offense is the worst offense a user can commit.
This offense results in immediate and permanent banning from Writing Home without warning.

  • Hate Speech
    • Any user found to be using hate speech to attack or defame a minority (excluding accidental banned verbiage usage in threads that may still be common on other sites), the user will face an immediate ban.

  • Threats of Harm to Others
    • Any user making direct threats to harm another user (kill, murder, stalk/find to cause harm), will face an immediate ban.
    • Users who post about people, on site or not, and comment about how they will find/kill/torture them may also face a ban.
      • While we understand users may be emotional due to circumstances of a case, remember that there is a difference between saying "They deserve to be tortured like they tortured (victim)" and "I'm going to find that MF and slit his throat!"
        • For the latter, depending on the situation and the comment, it may only receive a lesser offense.

  • Requesting or Posting Illegal Content
    • Any user found posting or requesting illegal content (Pedophilia, Bestiality*, Drugs, Child Pornography, Snuff, etc) will face an immediate ban.
      • *In this case, we directly mean bestiality that is not an accidental 'whoops, I didn't realize a dragon was considered an animal on this site', but instead a very obvious "I'm going to play a pet dog who has sexual relations with its owner".
      • Anyone found to be requesting or distributing illegal content, such as the aforementioned child pornography or snuff, will be reported to the correct authorities.

  • Attempts at Skirting the Rules or a Ban
    • If a user is found to be attempting to bypass the rules of Writing Home's banned content, either through vague word usage despite warnings or through private messages, they will face an immediate ban.
      • This includes attempting to create loopholes in the word verbiage of the rules or banned content.
      • This also includes finding partners on the site and then taking them offsite to request banned content.
    • If a user has been banned and they attempt to make another account or return to the site, their new account will also be banned.

  • Scamming
    • Any user caught scamming people, be it for money, art, etc., will face an immediate ban.
      • Depending on the severity of the scam, the user may also be reported to the correct authorities.

  • Hacking
    • Any attempt to gain access to another users account, be it through manipulation, false promises, threats, or legit hacking, the user will receive an immediate ban.

  • Phishing
    • The definition of 'Phishing' can vary. For Writing Home, it indicates any attempts to look up user private information, including name, location (through VPN or other means), account info, etc. If the information a user is trying to gain is not willfully given to them by the user, it is Phishing. This includes:
      • linking them to outside sources to obtain their VPN.
      • searching for them on IG/Twitter/Snapchat after they refuse to give you their handle/tag.

  • Pretending to be an Admin or Moderator
    • Any user found to be deliberately misrepresenting themselves as an admin or moderator of the site will receive an immediate ban.
      • We will give leeway on clear miscommunications.
