I'm new! What should I do first? ✥

First of all, Welcome to Writing Home!
We're so happy you joined!

Being new can be a jumble of confusion when figuring out what to do and where to go.
The first step for all new users is to read the Rules of Writing Home.
The most important ones are at the top.

After you've become familiar with the rules, we suggest visiting the introductions forum to introduce yourself!
If you ever want to post on the site, you'll have to post there first. This assists us in avoiding bots and spam.

Once you're done there, feel free to look around and see what we have to offer. Don't forget to read the rules and guidelines found within the different sections before posting.

What is Roleplay? Is it explicit content only? ✥

Roleplaying can be defined a few ways, but for our site specifically, it is defined as two or more people writing stories together by playing the individual characters within their stories.

Roleplay stories can be of almost any topic, including, but not limited to, cute stories about best friends living their daily lives, superheroes fighting villains or strangers falling in love at first sight.

Each story is designed to match the writer's personal tastes and while sexual or explicit content is not required, it is a common request of many roleplayers.

Basically, roleplay is, quite literally, what you and your partner make it.

✥ How do I know where my thread belongs? ✥

When entering most forums, you'll notice a sticky thread at the very top that is separated from the rest.
This thread is made by an admin and it will contain the rules of said forum and give a deeper explanation of what the forum is for.

If you're still unsure about the correct location of a thread you want to make, contact an admin or moderator to point you in the right direction.

it is important to note, that in larger forums with sub-forums, the sticky thread will be at the bottom and not the top.

✥ Can I change my username? ✥

If for any reason you need to change your username, be it due to error when signing up or simply wanting to spruce up your look, contact @UndeadEyes .

Keep in mind that a name change can be refused or changed later if found to be too close to another username, inappropriate or the reason for the change is questionable.

Due to rules that apply to names, which can be found in Username Rules, if you choose a name when joining the site that isn't allowed, you will be contacted and asked about preferences for a different name. Refusal to change when required will result in removal from the site.

✥ I'm having an issue with the site, what should I do? ✥

If you're experiencing a glitch or issue with the site, we suggest trying these methods before reporting it:

  1. Log out and log back in.
  2. Ask another user if they are having similar issues.
  3. If part of the Discord, ask in the main chat if anyone else is having the same issue.
  4. Give it a little time if it's not an emergency. Sometimes, the backend will run updates that can temporarily cause disruptions.
  5. If the glitch or error persists, head to the Report a Glitch forum and make a thread explaining the issue
Once the issue has been reported, admins will take over from there and report their findings.

✥ If the site is 18+, why can't we post adult content on the public forums? ✥

Simply put, 18+ doesn't mean Rated R but for a longer explanation, see below.

First and foremost, we want to be seen as a classy site. Well, classy-ish.
While we want our users to be free to do what they want in public, within limitations, we do not want as a smut-site.
Smut sites often have a limited audience as not everyone who roleplays wants to be involved in such content.

Secondly, It can also make the site inappropriate for public viewing.
We want to ensure our users can comfortably and safely access the site and look through the main forums without fear of where they are.
No one wants to be at work and signing on to read a message only to have pornography suddenly on their screen.
They don't want graphic writing on their screen when sitting at a coffee shop.

We want the site to be seen as more than just a 'smut' site and we want people to feel safe scrolling through when in a public setting.

✥ How explicit is too explicit for the public forums? ✥

On a public forum, you can do some light sensual touching across the body, excluding the groin and nipples.
You can do some light BDSM, such as spanking.

However, once the content goes from a PG16 tease to 18+ or Rated R, it cannot be on the public forums.

✥ What should I do if I want to avoid writing explicit content? ✥

When creating a thread or visiting another user's thread, there should always be a set of rules or expectations set by the thread creator.
If it's your thread, you can let users know that you are uncomfortable with graphic scenes and would rather avoid the scenario all together or fade-to-black (getting to the point of a scenario and then skipping over it).

You choose what you are comfortable with. No one can force you to write anything you are uncomfortable with.

✥ What should I do if I'm being harassed or stalked by a member? ✥

If a situation occurs where someone is actively harassing you after you've requested they leave you alone, there are two steps to take.

The first step is to utilize the ignore/block function.
If after that they somehow manage to continue to harass you, you should contact an admin or moderator.
If they, at any point, use hate speech, make threats, etc., report them immediately so that it can be dealt with properly.

What we do NOT suggest doing is responding with your own aggression.
If you stoop to their level and they report you, you may also get in trouble.

If you report them, do not tell them or publicly announce it. Simply let admins handle it.

Please know, if a user refuses to utilize the block function of our site, we will refuse to take action on their behalf.
If a user is unwilling to help themselves, we cannot do anything to assist.

✥ What should I do if a user is harassing me offsite? ✥

Unfortunately, once you have gone offsite, the admins and moderators have no power to control the actions of a user.
We suggest keeping your Discord, Skype, E-mails, etc., private until you're sure you trust someone enough to share them.
The best we can do is suggest you block and ignore them.

However, if you can show that the situation started on Writing Home, such as you met them and shared your information here to talk elsewhere, we will address the user as the behavior does go against our rules and we want to keep others safe from similar harassment.

✥ Can I block an Admin or Moderator ✥

No, users cannot block admins or moderators—nor can we block users.

If you are having issues with a moderator, be it harassment, abuse of power, etc, contact admin.
We do not allow abuse from any level of authority on this site and all reports will be looked into.

✥ What are signs of Admin/Moderator Abuse? ✥

One thing we strive for here at Writing Home is that all judgements will be fair and all users are equals and will be treated the same.
Unfortunately, as seen on other sites, sometimes moderators and admins will act in their own self-interest. They may also treat close friends differently than they do regular users.

Should you, be you a user or another admin/moderator, experience any of the below, be sure to get in contact with the lead Admin @UndeadEyes .
  • Admins/Moderators making comments such as “I can do what I want because I’m an Admin/moderator”.
  • Admins/Moderators refusing to explain what you did wrong when issuing a warning.
  • Admins/Moderators repeatedly letting their friends slip under the radar or never issuing more than warnings even after three warnings have been given.
  • Admins/Moderators not correcting the public activity of other Moderators/Admins if their activity breaks the rules.
  • Admins/Moderators being aggressive toward you even if you broke a rule (while they are to be direct and firm in explaining what you did wrong, they should not be swearing or using insults).
  • Admins/Moderators publicly shaming users they have given warnings to.
  • Admins/Moderators threatening users to keep them from taking the concern to a higher authority and or refusing to send a report to a higher authority.
All admins and moderators are required to report to and provide proof of the reason they issue any bans (3-day or permanent) to the lead admin. If the lead admin doesn't agree, they can overturn the ban.

If you sign on and find yourself banned, whether you feel it unjust or you're simply unsure of what you did to cause the ban, you can contact the lead admin through the website e-mail: WritingHomeRPG@gmail.com

✥ How do I contact Staff? ✥

The easiest way to contact staff, if reporting an issue concerning a post by another user, is to use the report button on the offending post or message.
If you need to ask them a question unrelated to another user, you can private message them directly.

✥ What's a 'PM'? ✥

A PM is a Private Message.
These are found through the small envelope icon on the header at the top of the screen.
These messages are private and no one else, beyond those in the message, can see what's within.

It's important to understand that, though PMs are private, admins are capable and allowed to look into a user's private messages if they have any inkling that a rule is being broken or an illegal activity is taking place.

The above is a rare situation but can and will be done as needed.

✥ Can we Roleplay in Private Messages? What about Explicit in Private? ✥

Yes, you can and yes, that's allowed.
You still have to follow the content rules, but you can write explicit content and post sexually explicit images in your Private Messages.

✥ What should I do if I post my thread in the wrong area? ✥

If the thread is incomplete, you can simply delete it.
If the thread is already designed and you just need it moved, contact an admin or moderator to move it.

If an admin catches your thread in the wrong area before you realize it, they will move it for you and send you a message to let you know.
You'll never get in trouble for a thread being in the wrong location as long as you're not purposely and repeatedly posting in the wrong areas.

✥ What do I do if I can't remember my password? ✥

If you try to sign in and find you can't remember your password, you can e-mail the site at WritingHomeRPG@Gmail.com (you can do this by clicking the 'contact' button in the footer at the bottom of the site as well.

To verify you are the owner of the account, we will ask you a series of questions that only the owner of the account would know.
Once verified, we'll set a new temporary password for you to use to sign in. From there, you can set your own password through your account information in your profile.

✥ How do I delete my Account? ✥

To delete your account, you must contact @UndeadEyes or @Writing Home with a request for deletion.
You will be asked if you wish to do a full deletion or a hiatus.

If you request a Full Deletion, all your threads, posts, stories and username will be removed from the site.
We cannot recover this after its deletion so be sure that is what you wish to do.

If you plan to return to Writing Home or are unsure and do not wish to lose all of your work, you can ask to be placed in the Hiatus status.
Members in Hiatus may use the contact form to get in touch with the admins to have their account reinstated later.
Accounts in Hiatus do not have anything deleted. Users can still sign in but cannot post or actively use the site until removed from the Hiatus status.

To avoid abuse of the hiatus status, we will only put accounts into Hiatus if you plan to be gone at least 2 weeks or more.

Please note, the reason for why you are leaving is of no concern to us. It is your choice and we will not try to change your mind.
This is due to some people seeking attention through their act of leaving, which we will not give.
When you request a deletion of your account respectfully, you are more than free to make a new account in the future should you choose.
However, constant abuse of deletion and remaking your account can lead to a ban, as this is improper use of the site.
